All the colors

Sandmade is getting prettier each day.

I’ve spent the last few days fixing bugs, coming up with color schemes for the puzzles and getting footage for a new trailer.

Here’s a fun fact: variable names “selectedBaseIndex” and “selectedBlockIndex” are similar enough that when you swap them in code no one will notice for hours!

Progress

I changed the layout of the puzzles in Sandmade. You now have to match the blocks from the top row to the ones from the bottom one, and there can now be up to 5 pairs on screen at a time.

I like how it’s possible to train the brain to see these pairs quickly. It used to be much more difficult to me, but after so much time working on the game and playtesting, I’m seeing a lot of improvement in that area.

Working on a puzzle game.

With the release of Hidden Paws behind us, and after the period of hectic post-launch support and bug fixing has passed, I’ve decided to work on something smaller before diving back into bigger projects.

I’m making a fairly simple puzzle game called Sandmade in which you will have to imagine which of the 3D shapes fit together. Sounds simple enough, right? It is.. until they get bigger. A block 3x3x3 is fairly easy to wrap your head around, but bigger than that quickly gets tricky.

Still a fair bit of work ahead of me as I tighten the mechanics, graphics, and puzzles. The plan is to release it on Steam in the middle of May, so I forsee some long days ahead 😉

The Steam page just got approved and is now public:

And now back to coding.

Hidden Paws released :)

Hidden Paws released on Steam! Yay! My first released game 🙂

My sister and I started working on this game during Christmas when we were both home for a week. Usually when we’re there we play video games and stuff ourselves with food. This time we wanted to be a bit more productive so we decided to make a game. It was supposed to be a simple 48-hour project with one pretty low poly island with cats hidden in it. We actually managed to do quite a lot during those two days, established the art style and core mechanics, but the project just kept growing, we had too many ideas to stop after such a short time. We kept improving the game and so 48 hours turned into over 3 months of work.

There are now over 12 beautiful winter islands instead of the intended one. Each has a lot of places where cats could be hiding. You can open windows, boxes, car trunks and so on.

It’s an incredible experience to make and release a game, you should try it! 😉
